New Delhi, July 17 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off India's first hydrogen-powered train connecting Jind and Sonipat in Haryana, marking a significant milestone in the country's transition towards cleaner and sustainable railway transportation.
The 10-coach train will cover the 89-kilometre stretch between Jind and Sonipat in approximately two hours, stopping at 12 intermediate stations. Designed to carry around 2,600 passengers, the train has an operational speed of 75 kmph on the route and a maximum design speed of 110 kmph.
Unlike conventional diesel locomotives that burn fossil fuels or electric trains that rely on overhead power lines, the hydrogen train generates electricity onboard through hydrogen fuel cells. ...
