Bengaluru, April 8 -- Amid ongoing debates over language preferences in Karnataka, a large majority of students under the state board have opted for Hindi as their third language, according to recent data.

Nearly 93 per cent of students have chosen Hindi, with over 7.5 lakh out of around 8.1 lakh students selecting it in the current academic year.

An additional 4,778 students are studying Hindi through the NCERT curriculum in Adarsha Vidyalayas, taking the total number of Hindi learners to about 7.6 lakh.

In comparison, other language choices remain significantly lower. Kannada, the state language, has been selected by 11,483 students, while 32,135 students have opted for English as their third language.
