Shimla, July 12 -- Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday said the state government's proposed High Value Nut Mission would usher in a new phase of growth, diversification and modernization in Himachal Pradesh's horticulture sector by promoting scientific cultivation of temperate nut crops and enhancing farmers' income.

The mission, to be implemented from 2026 to 2031, will promote the cultivation of walnut, almond, apricot and pine nut (chilgoza) while addressing challenges such as ageing orchards, low productivity, inadequate post-harvest infrastructure and limited value-addition opportunities.
