Bhawani NegiShimla, May 8 -- In offenses involving possession of drugs for trafficking, Himachal Pradesh recorded the second-highest crime rate in the country in 2024, at 17.2 cases per lakh population, according to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Neighboring Punjab ranks highest with a crime rate of 19.6 such cases per lakh population.

The NCRB data showed that Himachal Pradesh registered 1,715 cases under the NDPS Act in 2024, translating into a crime rate of 22.8 per lakh population, close to three times the national average crime rate of 7.8. This is the fourth-highest NDPS crime rate in the country.
