Shimla, June 27 -- Himachal Pradesh Police has secured the conviction of an accused in a narcotics case under the state's Anti-Chitta Jan Andolan, reinforcing its campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse.

According to a police spokesperson on Saturday, the Court of the Sessions Judge at Chamba convicted Balwant Singh on June 25 in connection with FIR, registered at Kihar Police Station in Chamba district under Section 20 of the NDPS Act.

The court sentenced the convict to five years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. In default of payment of the fine, he will undergo an additional three months of simple imprisonment.
