Shimla, June 30 -- BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan on Tuesday accused the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh of weakening democratic institutions by allegedly delaying elections to key local self-government bodies for political reasons.
Mahajan claimed that elections for Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons of Zila Parishads, Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats, Block Samitis, and the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporations had remained pending for an unusually long period.
He alleged that the delay was deliberate and aimed at preventing BJP-backed representatives from assuming office.
