Shimla, July 23 -- The Himachal Pradesh government has approved a comprehensive Road Safety Audit Policy for roads under the Public Works Department (HPPWD), making safety audits mandatory at every major stage of road development to further reduce accidents and fatalities in the hill state.

The policy, announced on Thursday, aims to integrate road safety into the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of roads by adopting a scientific and systematic approach in line with the guidelines of the Indian Road Congress (IRC).
