Shimla, Aug. 25 -- The Food Safety and Regulation Department conducted inspections and sampling at various food establishments in Boileauganj here on Tuesday as part of its intensified food safety drive ahead of the festive season.
During the inspection, officials found a cockroach in the syrup of gulab jamuns at a sweet shop. Considering the sweets unfit for consumption, around two quintals of sweets were destroyed on the spot, officials said.
Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Dr Vijaya Gautam and Food Safety Officer Dr Sunil Sharma conducted the inspection and sampling exercise.
The team also collected seven samples of various food products, including coloured rasgulla, barfi, milk cake, ghee and other sweets, for quality testing.
