Mumbai, May 26 -- Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik today indicated that if the state government does not provide financial assistance to the State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), which has been reeling under severe financial strain due to rising diesel prices, then the Corporation may be forced to introduce a marginal fare hike to cushion the impact.

Giving details of the financial burden on the already bleeding transport body in a press conference here. the Minister stated that the Corporation's annual diesel expenditure has shot up to approximately Rs 3,610 crore from the earlier estimate of Rs 3,300 crore.
