Chennai, April 23 -- Brisk turn out was witnessed all through the day as an all time high record of 82.24 per cent of the total 5.73 crore electorate have cast their ballots till 5.00 PM as single phase polling to elect the 234-member 17th Legislative Assembly in Tamil Nadu.
Going by the unprecedented turnout, and with an hour's time left for the polling to end, the voting percentage was all set to cross the 90 per cent mark for the first time in the annals of Tamil Nadu's electoral politics.
The total polling percentage in the 2021 Assembly polls was 72.81 rpt 72.81 per cent and the previous highest ever turnout recorded was 78.01 in the 2011 Assembly elections.
