Munnar (Kerala), April 27 -- Munnar, the popular hill station known for its cool climate, is witnessing an unusual spike in ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels, prompting authorities to issue a public health alert for residents and tourists.

The UV index in the region in Kerala has risen sharply to around 8, compared to its usual level of about 3, placing it in the "very high" risk category.

Experts attribute this sudden increase to clear skies and Munnar's high-altitude terrain, which allows more intense solar radiation to reach the surface. Health officials have warned that exposure to such high UV levels, particularly between 10 am and 3 pm, can lead to sunburn, skin damage, eye problems, and other health complications.
