Chandigarh, May 14 -- The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday witnessed a heated legal debate regarding the arrest of Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

During a 35-minute session, the defence challenged the procedural integrity of the agency's actions, questioning the timing of the custody and the legitimacy of the grounds provided for the arrest.

Citing the Supreme Court's landmark judgment in the Pankaj Bansal vs. union of India case, the petitioner's counsel argued that the court must scrutinize whether the accused was afforded mandatory legal protections at the time of detention.
