HGA breaking golf's elitist image by opening the sport to underprivileged youngsters

BD NarayankarHyderabad, Sept. 3 -- Golf is steadily shedding its long-standing elitist image, with the Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA) opening the doors of its heritage course to underprivileged children and using its junior programme to widen the sport's social base, HGA Secretary D Vanditha Reddy said in an exclusive interview with UNI.

Reddy said HGA was consciously working to ensure that access to golf was not determined by a child's economic background, challenging the perception that the sport was meant only for the affluent.

"There is a perception that golf is an elitist game. I don't believe it is any longer. Maybe at one point it was, but we have moved past that," he said.
