Ranchi, April 5 -- Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday raised the issue of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Adivasi community living in Assam's tea garden areas, describing it as a matter of "justice, dignity and identity" beyond politics.
In a post on X, Soren said Adivasis living in Assam's tea estates for generations had still not received constitutional recognition as Scheduled Tribes and termed the issue a "historic injustice".
He said the community had contributed significantly to Assam's economy but continued to remain deprived of constitutional recognition and associated rights.
