Mumbai, July 12 -- Heavy rains in Maharashtra have affected a poultry farm in Raigad district, killing around 800 birds after rainwater inundated the facility and causing significant financial losses to the owner, officials said on Sunday.
The incident took place in Mauje Ravalje village in the Patanus area, where rising water levels in a nearby river following heavy rainfall led to flooding at the farm.
The rainwater entered the poultry shed, killing around 800 birds and damaging a large quantity of stored poultry feed.
Farm owner Vikas Shelke said he suffered heavy financial losses due to the flooding and appealed to the state government for immediate compensation.
