Chennai, Oct. 21 -- Heavy rains battered Chennai, suburbs and Northern districts of Tamil Nadu prompting the authorities to declare a holiday for schools in five districts, even as a fresh Low Pressure area is likely to form over the Bay on October 23, intensifying the Northeast monsoon showers in the coming days.
The rains, which began last night, was accompanied by thunder and lightning, and it pounded in spells, inundating several lowlying areas. The rains continued on Wednesday morning and the met office has forecast that the showers would continue in North and South coastal districts.
