Chandigarh, Aug. 25 -- A section of the service road at Gurugram's busy IFFCO Chowk caved in on Tuesday after heavy rain, opening a large sinkhole and forcing traffic police to close the stretch as waterlogging disrupted movement across the city.
The collapse occurred on the Delhi-Jaipur highway's service road near the Westin Hotel. The affected section developed a pit roughly 10 feet wide, while officials said a damaged master sewer line beneath the road was the likely cause.
GMDA spokesperson Neha Sharma said the affected area had been barricaded and the authority had directed the agency concerned to repair the 1,000-mm master sewer line.
"Road repair work will be taken up after the master sewer line is repaired," Sharma said.
