Bengaluru, July 21 -- Facing political speculation over his omission of Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's name during his mother Chennamma's funeral, union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday issued a clarification, asserting that his reference to the "Chief Minister" in his emotional address was indeed meant for Shivakumar and that there was "no intention whatsoever" to slight him.

The clarification comes a day after Kumaraswamy publicly thanked several leaders for attending the funeral and the Karnataka government for according state honours to his mother. While he named union Ministers individually, he did not explicitly mention Shivakumar, triggering a political row and accusations that the omission was deliberate.
