Bengaluru, July 29 -- Karnataka High Court on Tuesday stayed further investigation in two criminal cases against a Bengaluru doctor who had alerted authorities about the presence of alleged Bangladeshi illegal immigrants, sharply questioning the Bengaluru Police over the speed of his arrest and the manner in which the cases were registered.
In strong oral observations, Justice M Nagaprasanna said the material placed before the court prima facie pointed to an "abuse of the criminal process" and expressed concern that police action in such cases could have implications for national security if complaints regarding illegal immigration were not handled appropriately.
