Mumbai, July 15 -- The Bombay High Court on Wednesday said that it is possible for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to maintain cleanliness in Mumbai on the lines of Indore, the cleanest city in the country, if there is a strong commitment and strict enforcement of waste management rules.
A division bench of the High Court observed that the BMC has "huge resources" and it is "not difficult" for the civic body to keep streets and public places clean by properly implementing the Solid Waste Management Rules.
The court directed BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide to fix responsibility of ward officers and take strict action against those failing to prevent garbage dumping in public places, streets and pavements.
