Chandigarh, March 7 -- The Punjab and Haryana High Court has acquitted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the high-profile murder case of journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati.

While the court cleared the Dera head of conspiracy charges, it upheld the life sentences of three other convicts, Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh, and Krishan Lal, ruling that the evidence clearly established their direct involvement in the crime.

The decision follows an appeal against the January 2019 verdict of a special CBI court in Panchkula, which had sentenced Ram Rahim and others to life imprisonment.
