Neeraj BaliChandigarh, Aug. 25 -- Haryana's crackdown on organised crime has widened beyond arrests, with the state police saying it has disrupted planned killings, firing incidents and bomb attacks while pursuing gangsters operating from inside and outside the country.

The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested 512 accused between January 1 and August 24 this year, including 55 most-wanted criminals, 270 gangsters or gang members and 187 people accused in other serious crimes, according to police data.

The figures come against a backdrop of extortion threats aimed at businessmen and other residents. Police have registered 109 extortion cases in the state this year.
