Panchkula, Sept. 22 -- In a surprise sweep aimed at protecting consumers from short-changing, the Weights and Measures Department, Panchkula, conducted a snap inspection at the Kalka vegetable market on Tuesday, examining the weighing scales and weights of nearly 200 shopkeepers.
While most of the measuring equipment was found to be accurate, inspectors caught several vendors red-handed using small stones in place of proper weights, a practice that quietly cheats buyers out of their rightful share.
