Panchkula, June 26 -- The Centre has proposed an amendment to the Drugs Rules, 1945, under which the licensing authority will not permit the import of any drug having less than one year of residual shelf life on the date of import.

The proposal has been issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare through draft rules published in the Gazette of India for public consultation.

The draft amendment seeks to substitute the second proviso under Rule 31 of the Drugs Rules, 1945. Under the proposed provision, imported drugs must have a residual shelf life of at least one year at the time of import.
