Visakhapatnam, July 20 -- The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has launched a programme to develop 50 modern parks across the city to enhance green cover and provide quality recreational spaces for citizens, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said on Monday.

In a statement, the Commissioner said the initiative is being implemented in line with the directions of the State Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department to transform identified open spaces into well-equipped public parks.

He said GVMC has identified 47 open spaces in the first phase, while the remaining sites will be identified and developed in phases.

The project will be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 21.97 crore from GVMC funds.
