Panchkula, Sept. 13 -- Haryana Police has fined 142 motorists a total of Rs 7.15 lakh in Gurugram during a month-long crackdown on the use of mobile phones while driving, officials said.
The special enforcement drive was conducted by Gurugram Traffic Police from August 1 to August 31, during which traffic police teams kept a close watch on motorists violating the ban on using mobile phones while driving, a Haryana Police spokesman said.
Haryana Police said the use of mobile phones while driving was a major cause of road accidents as it distracted drivers and significantly increased the risk of serious crashes.
