Mumbai, June 12 -- The Centre has acknowledged that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands fall in India's highest seismic risk zone but said comprehensive mitigation and disaster-management measures have been incorporated into the proposed Great Nicobar Integrated Development Project.
The assurance came in response to a representation submitted through the Prime Minister's Office portal by Mumbai-based NatConnect Foundation director B.N. Kumar, who raised concerns over the project's location in a geologically sensitive region prone to earthquakes and tsunamis.
