Mumbai, Sept. 8 -- The political confrontation over the Maratha reservation issue intensified on Tuesday as the Mahayuti government and quota activist Manoj Jarange remained locked in a standoff over his proposed march to Mumbai.

Addressing a press conference amid rising tensions, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil strongly defended the government's handling of the reservation issue asserting that the government has fulfilled its core promises regarding the Maratha reservation and urged Jarange to reconsider his decision to proceed with the protest.
