New Delhi, June 5 -- In the wake of two successive tragedies in South Delhi involving illegal constructions and bypassing safety bye-laws, the Rekha Gupta government has decided to implement provisions of the DDMA Act, 2005, under which owners of residential or commercial establishments found guilty of violations are likely to face imprisonment of up to one year along with fines.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday made it clear that strict action will now be taken against officials from all the departments concerned in cases involving fire incidents (such as the one in Hauz Rani, Malviya Nagar in which 21 people have died), unauthorized construction (the Saket building collapse that killed six people), violations of fire safety norms, an...
