Hyderabad, Sept. 16 -- Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday extended greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Hyderabad Liberation Day, observed on September 17.
In his message, the Governor said September 17, 1948, occupies an important place in the history of the erstwhile Hyderabad State and in the country's national integration.
He recalled that the erstwhile Hyderabad State attained liberation on September 17, 1948, following India's Independence on August 15, 1947.
The state then comprised regions corresponding to present-day Telangana, Marathwada and Hyderabad-Karnataka.
