Chennai, June 23 -- The toll in Sunday's Ammonia gas leak tragedy at a pirvate seafood processing and export unit in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu rose to nine on Tuesday, with four more affected workers succumbing at hospitals since last evening, even as the three-member expert committee formed by Chief Minister Vijay submitted its final report and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) initiated suo motu proceedings on the incident.
Official sources said all the deceased were women, with seven of them natives of Odisha and two from Assam.
