Patna, Sept. 6 -- With the water level of the Ganga continuing to rise and crossing the highest flood level at Gandhi Ghat in Patna, the Bihar government on Sunday sounded an alert in downstream areas, warning that the rising water pressure could affect several districts over the next few days.

Officials said the impact of the rising water level at Gandhi Ghat is likely to be felt at Hathidah and other downstream gauge stations over the next one to three days.

The water level at Hathidah may also cross its previous highest flood level, prompting authorities to step up preparedness.

Special vigilance has been advised in the Ganga-side areas of Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Bhagalpur and Katihar districts.
