Kolkata, Aug. 13 -- Former Trinamool Congress MLA from Panihati Nirmal Ghosh was arrested in Odisha on Thursday in connection with allegations of forcibly expediting the cremation of the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder victim in August 2024.
Police said Ghosh had been absconding after an FIR was lodged against him and two others at Khardah police station on Monday on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim's father.
The FIR names Ghosh, former local councillor Somnath Dey, and neighbour Sanjib Mukhopadhyay.
According to police sources, Ghosh had taken shelter in neighbouring Odisha after the fresh FIR was registered.
He was allegedly using a new mobile phone and SIM card to avoid detection while keeping his old phone switched off.
