There was no shooting. No wrestling. No badminton. No hockey. No table tennis. Many of the sports that had long padded India's Commonwealth medal tally had vanished from the programme. The easy prediction was that India would struggle.
Instead, India rewrote its own sporting script.
For decades, the Commonwealth Games had been a familiar ritual. Indian shooters fired with metronomic precision, wrestlers grappled their way to medals, weightlifters strained under impossible loads, and the tricolour rose often enough to keep statisticians busy. Glasgow offered none of those comforts. It demanded a different India.
