Chennai, July 12 -- In a tragic incident, four workers died of electrocution and and another suffered shock while they were engaged in drilling a borewell at a private resort near Mamallapuram, about 55 km from here, on Saturday evening.
The workers were trying lift a tall iron pipe vertically to be lowered into the borewell pit, when it came into contact with a live overhead high tension wire, resulting in the tragedy.
The deceased were identified as Prabhu (33), Balaji (20), Basha Bai (45) and Rajendran (55). The injured Bhagavan (45) and was admitted to a nearby hospital.
Police said the private resort, which also operates a restaurant, had been facing acute water scarcity due to a sharp decline in groundwater levels during the summer...
