Chandigarh, June 23 -- Former Punjab BJP president and former union Minister Vijay Sampla on Tuesday appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Behbal Kalan firing case and sought a copy of a memorandum allegedly submitted to the Punjab Governor in connection with the matter.

Sampla appeared before the SIT at the PAP Complex in Jalandhar following a notice issued by the investigating team.

Speaking to reporters after the questioning, he said the investigators had sought information regarding a memorandum submitted to the Governor in 2018. He maintained that he was not serving as the Punjab BJP chief at the time, although the memorandum had reportedly been submitted jointly by the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance.
