Kolkata, Aug. 8 -- Former Trinamool Congress MLA from Naihati Sanat De was arrested by police from Duttapukur on Saturday morning in connection with multiple cases, including allegations of extortion and post-poll violence.
De is scheduled to be produced before the Barrackpore court later in the day.
Police sources said several complaints had been lodged against De in connection with alleged post-poll violence and assaults following the 2021 Assembly elections. He has also been accused of running an extortion network in the area and of being involved in clashes between BJP and TMC supporters in Naihati.
A few days ago, police has conducted a search at De's residence in connection with the cases, but he was not found at home.
