Kollam, March 4 -- A vigilance court here on Wednesday granted bail to A. Padmakumar, former president of the Travancore Devaswom Board, in connection with the alleged gold misappropriation case linked to the Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa Temple.

Padmakumar, who is also a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), had been remanded in judicial custody as part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance and alleged diversion of gold during renovation works at the hill shrine.

The court granted him statutory bail after the investigating agency failed to file the chargesheet within the stipulated time frame. Legal sources said the order paves the way for his release from custody upon completion of formalities.
