Kolkata, June 4 -- Former West Bengal Sports Minister Arup Biswas did not appear before Bidhannagar South Police Station on Thursday in connection with the investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding football icon Lionel Messi's event at Salt Lake Stadium here in December last year.

Instead, his lawyer submitted a letter to the police seeking 14 more days to comply with the summons.

According to police sources, the summons was issued on the basis of a complaint filed by event organiser Shatadru Dutta following which Biswas had been asked to appear for questioning by June 5.

The development comes as Biswas awaits a hearing on his anticipatory bail plea before the Barasat court, scheduled for June 9.
