Bhubaneswar, July 14 -- The Odisha Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested former State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Director Manoj Kumar Padhy in connection with errors detected in Odia textbooks for Classes I to VIII, which allegedly caused a loss of about Rs 175 crore to the State exchequer.
The investigation into the textbook errors was entrusted to the Crime Branch of Odisha Police on the direction of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Majhi had on Saturday ordered a criminal investigation into the entire process of preparation and publication of the textbooks. He also directed the SCERT Director to lodge a separate FIR with the Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, over the errors.
