Shillong, July 20 -- Former Meghalaya Home Minister and National People's Party (NPP) national working president, James Sangma took oath as member of the Upper House of the Parliament on Monday.
James, the elder brother of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and a three-time MLA from Dadenggre assembly constituency, was elected unopposed to the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Meghalaya.
Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan administered oath to James on the first day of the Monsoon session. He took the oath in Hindi.
James was accompanied by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, along with other party leaders and his family members.
