Hyderabad, May 17 -- Former Judge of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh High Court and the first Chairman of the Telangana State Human Rights Commission, Justice Dr G. Chandraiah, passed away early on Saturday.

He breathed his last at Apollo Hospitals, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, while undergoing treatment for a lung-related illness.

Born in May 1954 in Timmapur village of the erstwhile Adilabad district, Justice Chandraiah created history as the first judge from the Dalit community from Telangana to be elevated to the High Court.

He is survived by his son, Prashanth, who is currently residing in the United States.
