Kolkata, June 18 -- union Minister for Jal Shakti CR Patil on Thursday called for a large-scale expansion of rainwater harvesting infrastructure across West Bengal and the country saying the state could significantly improve groundwater recharge while also tackling the persistent problem of waterlogging.
Patil said that groundwater levels had declined in many parts of the country and emphasised the need for sustained conservation efforts.
He urged apartment complexes, offices, industries and individual households to install rainwater harvesting systems that can capture monsoon run-off and channel it back into the ground.
