Amravati, Feb. 23 -- As many as five people were killed and more than 15 others seriously injured after a pickup vehicle overturned in the Shivazhiri Ghat section of Dharani taluka in Maharashtra's Amravati district, police said on Monday.
The victims, residents of Kanjoli and Ranigaon villages, were returning from a weekly market in Dedtalai, Madhya Pradesh, when the accident occurred on Sunday evening.
According to preliminary information, the vehicle was ascending a steep stretch near Shivazhiri village when it reportedly lost momentum and began rolling backward.
Despite efforts by the driver to regain control, the vehicle overturned, allegedly due to a technical failure or overloading, officials said.
