Pune, May 29 -- Five persons died after allegedly consuming suspected toxic country liquor in Pune's Hadapsar area, while one person has been arrested in connection with the case, officials said on Friday.
The State Excise Department arrested Yogesh Wankhede, who is suspected to have supplied industrial spirit allegedly used in the manufacture of the illicit liquor. Authorities said the incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Hadapsar and Kalepadal police stations.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the country liquor was allegedly manufactured in Fugewadi in neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad using chemically contaminated spirit and later distributed in Hadapsar and nearby areas.
