Srinagar, April 14 -- Director Fire & Emergency Services, Alok Kumar, on Tuesday said fire incidents across the union Territory dropped by 25 per cent last year, with timely response and preventive measures helping save property worth over Rs 5,000 Cr.

The figures were shared as the department launched Fire Service Week during Fire Service Day function at its Batamaloo headquarters.

Led by Director Fire & Emergency Services, Alok Kumar, the officers and personnel paid floral tributes to martyrs of the historic Bombay Dock Explosion of 1944, commemorated annually as Fire Service Day. A two-minute silence was observed for the firefighters who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
