London, Sept. 13 -- A fire broke out aboard a vessel after it was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Sunday.
UKMTO said it received an initial report of the incident at 2300 GMT on Saturday, but did not specify when the vessel was struck.
The maritime authority initially said the status of the crew, the extent of damage to the vessel and any environmental impact were unknown.
In an update on Sunday, UKMTO said a fire had broken out aboard the vessel following the reported attack.
"Local authorities were at the scene and assisting in evacuating crew members," UKMTO said.
