Madhepura (Bihar), April 18 -- A railway accident was averted after a fire broke out in a coach of the Kosi Express near Murliganj when it was heading to Purnia Court from Patna late Friday.

Official sources said that smoke was first noticed emanating from beneath the S-5 sleeper coach as it passed near Dinapatti station. Flames soon erupted, triggering panic among passengers who raised an alarm.

Prompt action by railway staff and local villagers helped bring the situation under control in time. As the train was moving, the fire intensified, forcing authorities to halt the train.
