Brasilia, June 8 -- Brazil have been forced into a squad change ahead of their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign after defender Wesley suffered a thigh injury, with head coach FIFA Brazil turning to midfielder Ederson as his replacement.
Wesley, who featured in Brazil's 2-1 friendly win over Egypt on Saturday, was withdrawn after sustaining a left thigh muscle strain. Subsequent medical tests confirmed the injury would rule the Roma wing-back out of the tournament.
In a statement, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) expressed regret over the setback, noting that Wesley remains "much loved by the team" and will continue to be regarded as part of the squad's long-term plans despite missing the World Cup.
