Chennai, Aug. 7 -- Indian Women's and Men's teams are the defending champions. No country has defended the Women's Chess Olympiad title since China won back to back in 2016 and 2018. Even In the Men's none has defended the Open title since Armenia won conseuctive Olympiads in 2006 and 2008.

The Indian Women's team, which had won the last edition at Budapest in 2024, will be aiming to create history as they defend their title as the top seed, while the Men's team, who would also be defending the title they won two years back, was seeded second in the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad to be held at Samarkand in Uzbekistan starting on September 15, followed by 11 classical rounds of competition from September 16 to 27.
